Product Description
The Grivel Alp Wing Hammer Ice Axe isn't a waterfall tool adapted to alpinism. Rather, Grivel developed this generation of ice tools specifically for technical climbing on all of the world's mountains. (Available with adze, our item no.: GRV0014.) The Evolution is a thinner, high performance pick designed for pure ice—a thinner pick affords better penetration, hence greater holding power with less effort. (For a thicker pick suited for mixed climbing see our item no.: GRV0016, Goulette Pick). The modular head of the Alp Wing is hot-forged, and the shaft permits good clearance to overcome bulges without levering the pick out of the ice. The lower part of the shaft is relatively straight, which penetrates hard snow easily. The natural rubber grip is flush with the shaft. The Easy-G leash allows rapid manipulation—brilliant support on steep terrain but quick to open with a gentle sideways pull. It is efficient in the mountains where one continually transitions between the head and shaft of the tool. This leash represents true progress in an ever-developing field.
