Paclite, a 2-layer waterproof laminate, makes for the lightest and most compressible Gore-Tex rainwear on the market, taking up way less space when packed than comparable fabrics. Paclite keeps water out, but also lets it escape from within, transporting vaporous perspiration before it condenses and gloms onto your legs. The neoprene and Velcro closures at the ankles, while not waterproof, are far more leak-resistant and splash-proof than standard rain pants—perfect in a touring shell.
