Made with Madshus's Polycell core, the Ultrasonic is lightweight with a slightly wider footprint than Madshus's racing skis. It offers more stability and a wider platform that's forgiving when you're trying to learn the skating stride. Madshus keeps the cost low on the Ultrasonic Ski by using a Ptex 2000 base, which might not be quite as fast as higher end models, but it also doesn't require constant attention for a consistent glide.
